Will Short, 86, died peacefully, Sunday, August 10, 2008 at his home in Urbandale. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 15, 2008 at First Federated Church, Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines.

Will was born September 5, 1921 in Farmer City, Illinois, the son of Imon and Nancy (Donaldson) Short. His family moved to Des Moines when he was a young child. Will was a graduate of North High School and had served in the US Coast Guard during WWII.
In February 1971, Will was united in marriage to Jan Fessler in West Des Moines. He worked as a mailer at Meredith Corporation for 33 years.

Will was a member of First Federated Church, the International Mailers Union and was a visitation coordinator for the American Cancer Society. He loved his family, friends, gardening and doing yard work.

Will is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jan; daughter, Melanie Dooley (Peter Orwick) of Solana Beach, CA; sons, Ed Kracht of Clear Lake, IA and Steve Kracht of Ft. Myers, FL; daughter, Kelli Ross of Philadelphia, PA; six grandchildren Kristin Kracht, Jason Kracht (Alicia), Tad Dooley, Cassie Stanley (Paull), Jack Kracht and Kayla Kracht; four great grandchildren: Brandon and Alexis Kracht, Neveah and Grace Stanley; sisters, Millie Creek of Ramona, CA and Etta Dorrell (Dick) of Des Moines; and brothers, Merle Short (Willa) of West Des Moines and Earl Short (Becky) of Waukee. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bobby Dale Short; grandson, Chad Kracht; brother, Melvin and sisters, Hilda and Imy.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa or First Federated Church, Fellowship Hall.
