Ronald Dean Ellis, 69, of Des Moines, IA passed away peacefully at his home on August 10, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born to Roy and Lydia Ellis on August 1, 1949 in Knoxville, IA. He attended high school in Washington State. Upon completion of high school, he was drafted into the United States Army for two years, where he was Honorably Discharged. He worked for the Local Carpenters Union for 16 years, and finished the remainder of his career with the United States Postal Service where he was employed for 22 years before retiring in 2007.

Ronald enjoyed Reading, Watching Sports (New York Mets, Chicago Bulls, and ISU), Fishing, Hunting, Gardening, Dancing, The Iowa State Fair, and Playing cards while drinking beer with friends. But above all he cherished time spent with his family. He never missed an opportunity to be involved with his children and grandchildren. He touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He had the biggest heart. He made sure those he cared for were always taken care of and always put the needs of others before his own. Ronald was a simple man, who was selfless and didn’t require anything but the love and support of others to live his life to the fullest.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving children, Dawn (John) and Kristen (Andrew); grandchildren, Rachelle (Brad), Jeremy (Marina), Allison (Cristian), Zach (Jasmine), Devin, Matthew, Paige (Mario), Mariah, Brooke (Logan), Kelsey (Jesse), Jordyn and Talin; great-grandchildren, Nataleigh, Haylee, Keegan, Aubriana, Nevaeh, Ava, Maverick, Mahayla, Cristian, Zoey, Ethan, Zayne, and Emerie; step-daughter, Megan (Jesse and their children, Gavin, and Vivian); brothers, Roy, Dwight, Gerald, and Donald; sisters, Carole, Ramona, Leila, Edith, and Sharon; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Ellis and Lydia (Harding) Ellis; daughter, Jodi Ellis Thomas; son, Steven Ellis; brothers, John, Robert Dale, Harry, and Ray; sisters, Margaret, Leora, and Linda; and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 15 at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16 followed by 2 p.m. burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, near Van Meter.
