Douglas Alan Callison, 78, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, IA. Services will be held at Westover Funeral Home on September 14, 2018, at 3 pm.

Douglas was born November 5, 1939, in Grand Junction, CO, to Leonard and Avis (Templer) Callison. He married Norma (Truman) Barber on December 23, 1989.

Doug attended and graduated from Storm Lake, Iowa. He received degrees from Buena Vista University, Iowa State University, and Drake. He also attended Minnesota Bible College. After graduation, Doug taught Chemistry at Roosevelt High School. He then worked as a Chemical Engineer for 40 years. Doug was an inventor and held several patents. He also worked as a professional photographer, taking photographs of the Barnstormers and other iconic Des Moines events.

Doug loved to read technical manuals. He also loved to grill out and cook for his family and friends. When he wasn’t grilling, he was hanging out with his buddies at Billy Joe’s or tailgating at IA State football games in his Iowa State bus.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Norma Barber-Callison; sister, Carol (Linden) Johnson; son, Brett (Kimberly) Barber of Norwalk, IA; daughter, Brandyce (Paul) Rieks of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Bryan and Margaret Barber, Elisabeth, Bradley, and Brett Rieks. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 pm prior to the service. Contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s.
