Obituary

David Allen Bennink went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2019. He was born October 14, 1955 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to the late Donald L. and Sophia C. (Van Hal) Bennink. He graduated from Boone High School in 1974 and in 1976 from the DMACC diesel mechanic program. For over 40 years he worked as a diesel mechanic in Des Moines and was currently working at the DMACC Transportation Institute.

Dave was united in marriage on February 16, 1980 to his wife of 38 years, Lynn Coffey. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren. Dave and Lynn also enjoyed motorcycle and Corvette rides, boating, and traveling together.

Our family will dearly miss Dave, but rejoice in knowing he is safely "Home" as he was purchased by the blood of his Savior, Christ Jesus.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; daughters, Kristen (Jon) Hanson and Michelle (Josh) Finch; precious grandchildren, Arwen and Jensen Finch, who adored “Papa”. Dave is also survived by his mother, Sophia Bennink; sisters, Susan (John) Burke of Omaha, NE, Ann (Kevin) Sorensen of Cokato, MN, and Karen (Tom) Schultz of Warrenton, VA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Visitation with the family will be held at The Well Covenant Church, 2625 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa from 4-7 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019. A celebration of life service will be held at The Well Covenant Church at 10 am January 12, 2019. The family encourages anyone with a Hawaiian shirt to wear it LOUD and PROUD!

Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom for Youth, The Well Covenant Church, The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation, or for diesel mechanic scholarships at DMACC.
