Helen excelled in cooking and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, crafts and gardening. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, and she worked for the United Community School lunch program when it was at Jordan, Iowa. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Woodward, Iowa. Helen cherished the time she had to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandsons.
