Obituary

Veu “Michael” Chang, 50, of Des Moines died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Iles Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, followed by cremation.

Michael was born in Vientiane, Laos on November 2, 1969 to Suan Chang and May Thi Vang. Michael immigrated to the United States in 1976 and made his home for five years in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania before moving to Des Moines in 1981. He has worked for Glass Fabricators since 1999.

He was an excellent pool player and cook. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to music. He will be remembered as a devoted father. He was a good friend with a kind heart, who was always willing to help. He would always say “Don’t be shy.”

Survivors include his two precious daughters, Ashley and Christina Chang; step children, Vonny, Ricky, Paul and Samantha How; sisters, Chinh (Michael) Lopatic, Linda (Stewart) Baccam; brother, Lo (Khan) Chang; and nieces and nephews including, Stephen Mok. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cheng A. Chang.
