Stanley Edward Erickson, 87, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Grimes. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, IA.

Stanley was born March 30, 1932, in Boone County, IA, to Forrest and Marjorie (Bolle) Erickson. He married Beverly Jean Williams on August 19, 1951, at Garden Prairie Church in Boone County, IA. Stanley served in the Army during the Korean War as a member of the 49th Field Artillery Battalion, deployed in North Korea. Following release from active duty, he attended Boone Community College for two years and graduated as a member of the last class from Iowa State College in 1959.

Stanley began his teaching career in Maynard, MN for two years. In 1961, he accepted a position as a biology and chemistry teacher at Bertha-Hewitt High School in Bertha MN and remained in that position for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of American Legion Post #366 in Bertha, MN, VFW, Minnesota Education Association, and the Korean War Veterans Association.

Stanley loved golf and was an avid golfer - four holes in one! He also loved biking and logged thousands of miles on the Iowa bike trails and made many friends along the way.

Stanley is survived by his children, David (Julie) Erickson of Virginia Beach, VA, Dean (Angie) Erickson of Monticello, MN, and Sarah (Michael) Fredell of Stafford, VA; three granddaughters, Laura Fredell, and her fiance Matthew Bryant, of Frederick, MD, Jennifer (Andrew) Mallon of Fort Polk, LA, and Annika Erickson of Virginia Beach, VA; and his great-grandson, Thomas Mallon of Fort Polk, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Wayne Erickson.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Contributions may be made to the Central Iowa Honor Flight, P.O. Box 125, Council Bluffs, Iowa 51502. Online condolences will be welcomed at
