Obituary

Robert (Bob) Dean Tangen was born on October 13, 1931 to Gladys Tangen in Lisbon, North Dakota. Bob died on September 15, 2020.

Bob grew up in Lisbon where he participated in sports and was on the 1951 state championship Class B basketball team. He met Mary June Steen and they were married on March 6, 1955. Bob worked for Anthony’s and S&L clothing stores which had he and June moving to several locations throughout the Midwest. After their children, Marsha, Mike and Missy joined the family, they ultimately moved to Fayette, Iowa, where Bob opened his own clothing store. After closing the store, Bob went to work as a salesman for the Vernon Company.

Bob enjoyed living in Fayette where he made many lifetime friends. He loved going to high school football games every Friday night. He enjoyed watching sports, playing games, having a beer and giving everyone he encountered a jokingly hard time.

Bob’s greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren play sports. One of his sports highlights was attending almost every baseball game played by his grandsons, Steve and Greg. He enjoyed the holidays when the family could gather and play many card games and his favorite dice game. He loved to cheer on the Hawkeyes, Cyclones and Panthers for football and basketball.

Bob is survived by his wife June Tangen, Ankeny, Iowa; children, Marsha (David) Arens, Urbandale, Iowa, Mike Tangen, Dubuque, Iowa and Melissa Tangen, Ankeny, Iowa; brother, Ken (Mary) Tangen, Moorehead, MN; grandson, Gregory (Andrea) Arens, West Des Moines, Iowa. As well as several nieces and nephews and will be missed by special niece Laurie, who Bob had the joy of visiting in Hawaii in 2018. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Tangen and his grandson, Steven Arens.
