Longtime Des Moines educator and volunteer, Gerald “Jerry” L. Conley passed away unexpectedly and peacefully Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Services are tentatively scheduled to coincide with his 90th birthday in June 2021. Private burial will occur at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. More information about his services will be published closer to the event.

Jerry was born June 25, 1931 in Fort Dodge to Leo and Loretta (Rieman) Conley and grew up in Waverly. He served with honor during the Korean Conflict as a naval Petty Officer before marrying Mary Katherine Cunningham in 1957.

Jerry served as a high school teacher, vice principal, junior high principal and as high school principal at Des Moines’ Roosevelt High School for 14 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of Des Moines Intentional Eucharistic Community, a volunteer at Methodist Hospital, a 25 year volunteer for the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), and a member of Golden K Kiwanis among other organizations.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Elias Rincon Aguilar) Conley and bonus granddaughter Luisa Rincon Guerrero of Windsor Heights; brother, David Conley of Omaha, NE; sister, Monica (John) Klug of Florida; brother-in-law, John Cunningham of Winterset; and sister-in-law, Carol Conley of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Katherine Conley; his parents; brother, Robert Conley; and sister-in-law Rose Conley.
