Obituary

Judith Isabel Znerold was born on April 19, 1931 in Warren, Minnesota. On Saturday, April 3, 2021, she passed peacefully at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, Iowa with her family by her side.

She was the youngest child and only daughter of Manda Halvorson Znerold and George Znerold, which provided her the opportunity to be doted on by her father and adored by her mother. Her two older brothers were playful with Judy but also looked after her.

Judy received her BA and MA in Education. She began her teaching career in Montana then moved to Minneapolis and taught in the Edina School System until she retired in June 30, 1999. She was a beloved first grade teacher and had a special gift with children and their parents. Judy touched the lives of hundreds of children - she truly understood them and therefore was loved by all.

She loved music and was a season ticket holder for the Minneapolis symphony. She was very active in her church, Richfield Methodist, where she sang in the choir and as a soloist for weddings and funerals.

Judy loved football. An avid Minnesota Vikings fan, she attended many a game in the old stadium. Sunday was a special day for going to church, working on the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle (which she always finished) and watching football.

Traveling was important to Judy, she traveled the world and loved sightseeing and learning history of each country. Many a Spring Break she travelled with her dear friends to warm weather destinations.

Judy’s family and friends were all-important to her. Throughout her life, she was always there for us and we cherished our time together. Left to love and honor her memory are her niece, Mary Bussone (Fred) and her two nephews, Mike Znerold and Steve Znerold (Marla Lacey), eight great nieces and nephews and three great great nephews along with countless cherished and loving friends and cousins. Judy was welcomed into heaven by her parents and brothers, Winton and John.

The family will have a private service in Des Moines and burial by her parents in Viking, Minnesota.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association - Iowa Chapter or Richfield Methodist Church, Richfield, Minnesota.
