Obituary

Harold E. Coyne, Jr., passed away on May 12, 2021. Always the story teller - of life growing up during The Great Depression and his time during WWII in occupied Japan; he loved to sing; watch old black and white movies. A few of his favorites were Four Feathers, The Tales of Hoffmann, The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle, and of course Gunga Din. He enjoyed a good game a chess, a round of golf and working in the yard. He was married to his wife Gisela for almost 50 years. They loved to dance together and listen to classical waltzes and Rhein music.

Harold was born January 18,1927 in New York to Harold and Estelle (Blank) Coyne. Harold served in the Army Air Force at the end of WWII; and served as Post Master for the State of Iowa from 1985 until his retirement in 1991.

Harold is survived by his two sons Timothy Coyne and Matthew Coyne; and two daughters Patricia (Ronald) Zander, and Barbara (John) Coyne-Waltz; four grand-children Kyle (Alexandra) Moser, Cheyenne Coyne-Waltz, Felica Coyne -Waltz and Natalie Zander; and three great-grandchildren Brinley, Evelyn and Nash; his brother Paul Coyne, and sister Nancy Jane Reymann.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gisela E. Coyne; daughter Cynthia Jean Coyne; grandson Jonathan Coyne-Waltz II; sister Margret Rowan; and brother James Coyne.

A celebration of life will be held at Iles Funeral Home - Westover, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA at on Monday, May 17, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Administration in Des Moines.
