Obituary

Services for Billy F. (Bill) Ibsen, 80, of Windsor Heights, Iowa, will be on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 10 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9AM at the church. All are welcome.

Bill died of cancer Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Bright Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.

Bill was born March 9, 1941, in Clarence, Iowa, to parents Arthur and Wanda Ibsen. He grew up on a farm near Clarence, where he showed calves in 4-H and learned to enjoy hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and go-karts. He participated in sports and band in high school. Throughout his life, he liked finding bargains at local auctions, playing cards, and watching horse racing. When his children were young, he joined in their activities like the Y-Adventure Guides and Princesses, and Cub Scouts. Many happy memories were made while hunting and fishing, including fishing trips with his son Stew, fishing trips to Canada with his fishing buddies and hog-hunting trips to Georgia. He also liked to spend time at his “man cave,” a second home in rural Winterset.

Bill’s friends and family counted on his dry sense of humor and his honest, blunt opinions. Other than hunting and fishing trips, he wasn’t a big fan of traveling, preferring to remain at home in Iowa, but he read widely and was very knowledgeable about subjects from WWII to coin collecting. He graduated from Drake University, and his career was primarily in IT, beginning at Pioneer. He spent several years as a stockbroker, then retired after 20 years in IT with the state of Iowa.

After a “whirlwind” courtship of 16 years, Bill was married to his wife Jane, who survives him. Other family members include son Stewart Ibsen of Des Moines, daughter, Chris (Scott) Laube of Indianola, ex-spouse Donna Ibsen, nephew Brett (Kathy) Ibsen of Shellsburg, and nieces Marlys Gade of Oregon and Deanna (Russ) Kross of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James, and sister Darlene.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Please visit www.IlesCares.com for online condolences.
