He attended St. John’s Elementary school and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Kearsarge, USS Orca and the USS Boxer. He was retired from Robert Half Staffing Agency print department.

He enjoyed vacations to top national golf resorts, and he taught the game to others. Bob took great joy in the U.S. Ryder Cup victory shortly before his passing. He enjoyed watching the Cyclones and Hawkeyes and was an avid Cubs fan. He was a parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church for many years before moving to Ankeny and joining Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church.
