Obituary

Tracy Wilbert Tennant, 60, passed away to be with our Lord on October 19, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa after a short illness. Beloved son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, how do we begin to describe you as well as your life journey. You lived your life on your own terms and with gusto.

He enjoyed flying with Gregg and riding his Harley with Jennifer, Melvin, Lori and other friends. He also loved working on cars, trucks and anything mechanical; there was hardly anything he couldn’t fix. Since a child, Tracy entertained family and friends with his amusing pranks and jokes. It seems everyone has a lot of favorite “Tracy stories” to share. He enjoyed his pets and had many over the years.

Tracy was born in Warren, Ohio, on October 2, 1961. He attended schools in Fairmont, West Virginia and graduated from Ankeny High School. Later he received diplomas from Truck Driving and Welding Schools at Des Moines Area Community College.

He was proud of his military service to our country as a decorated soldier. Tracy served in the Army 3rd Recon Squadron 11th U. S. Calvary. After the military service he was an over the road truck driver and lately had been driving heavy equipment for Ram Development & Demolition in Des Moines. He loved his work, and was a hard worker.

Survivors include his mother Nedra Markham, his daughter Jennifer, sisters Rebecca, Tami (Jeff), Jan (Tom), Suzanne (Pete), brothers Tom, Paul (Ruthie), Bruce (Kathy), and Dave, his aunts Sandra (Jerry) and Tensil (George). He also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Richard Markham (father) and uncles, Willis Markham and Richard Bartlett, precede him in death.

Tracy had many friends, and the family is appreciative of several special friends in particular. During his recent illness, Melvin got him to the hospital and Lori was with him every day. Prior to that, Gregg and Melanie cared for him after a leg injury.

Due to Covid, Tracy’s memorial service will be a private occasion. His interment at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter will be a private affair also. It will be livestreamed on the Iles website. Go to www.ilescares.com just before noon , Wednesday, November 10, 2021, and scroll to the bottom of Tracy’s obituary for the link to join the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the local puppyjakefoundation.org (service dogs for veterans), or you may want to take family and friends to dinner to celebrate Tracy’s life and share your “Tracy Stories”.
