Dorothy Ruth Eggers passed away peacefully on December 11, 2021, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born July 23, 1926, in Elkader, Iowa to Dr. C.L. and Ruth Crider. She attended the University of Iowa where she met and married Leon A. Eggers. She completed her degree in music performance at the University of Nebraska.

Dorothy and Lee moved to Des Moines where they lived and raised their three children (David, Ruth Ann, Susan) for the next 65 years. She was active in her children’s lives volunteering in school, playing piano for their programs, and even organizing a women’s choir at Clive Elementary school and holding many offices as president of PTA and later Valley band booster president.

Dorothy had a strong relationship with God and served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Elder at Windsor Presbyterian and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Music was her passion. She sang as a soloist, was a member of the choir, enjoyed directing children’s choirs, and used her piano skills whenever needed.

Dorothy lived a full life including 60 years of teaching piano lessons, gardening, cooking, entertaining, knitting, and traveling. Dorothy was also involved in many service organizations including TTT, Daughters of the Nile, and Calvin Community Board.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Lee, sister Grace, son David, and parents. Left to cherish the memory of a loving and supportive woman are children, Ruth Ann (Herb) Schwartz, Susan (John) Horn, and daughter in law Deborah Eggers; grandchildren: Kristen, Jonathan, Krystina, Benjamin, David, Jeffrey, and Caralyn; great grandchildren: Rhys, Meaghan, Zandrea, Addison, Logan, Mason, Grace, Joseph and James.

A celebration of life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in April 2022.
