Leslie Anne Walker Tingwald, Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Niece, Friend, and the Fiercest Warrior Against Cancer, 48, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the morning of June 10th 2022.

Leslie was born on December 21st, 1973 in Atlanta, GA, and her family settled in the Des Moines area where she spent her childhood and attended Des Moines Catholic Schools.

Leslie’s beautiful and caring energy made healthcare an easy career choice. Serving patients in Des Moines and Pella hospitals. Leslie worked most recently as the Activities Director at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, IA. Leslie’s gift of compassionate care, an attentive ear, and the brightest of smiles will forever be remembered by the many patients and families she cared for.

Leslie had many passions and interests, but her greatest joy was enjoying life with her children, Hannah and Spencer. Spending time with family was her priority. Leslie made wonderful memories in her love of traveling and experiencing different cultures outside of home. Leslie embraced life at every opportunity, no matter how she felt, she showed up and welcomed life before her with open arms. She had a love for fashion and style (a gift we all envied). She loved animals and volunteered on many occasions at the ARL.

Leslie is predeceased by her husband Chad Tingwald, Ankeny, IA; Grandparents, Gerald Lapp, Astor, FL and Annette Grimes, Groton, MA; Harold and Doris Beck; Des Moines, IA and her Uncle, James Lapp, Jacksonville, FL.

Leslie is survived by her parents, Deborah and Warren Grimes, Altoona, IA; daughter Hannah (Curtis) Manchester, Boone, IA; son Spencer (Kevin Witt) Walker, Des Moines, IA; sister, Amanda (Charles) Kline, Des Moines, IA; niece and nephew, Madalynn and Landon Chiri; Des Moines, IA; aunt Mary Martin and aunt Roberta (Darel) Oja both of New Hampshire; Olivia (Michael) Lavallee, San Diego, CA; Jimmy Walker, father of her children and cherished friend, Pleasantville, IA and several cousins.

Leslie’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Kavanaugh Hospice House for their wonderful care; and to the staff and residents at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona for their unwavering support, love and care throughout Leslie’s illness.
