Jerald “Jerry” Martin Corbett went to his heavenly home on Wednesday November 2nd. Jerry was born on November 1, 1942 to James and Kathryn (Hatterman) Corbett in Dunlap, Iowa. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School. He married Shirley Mackey in 1965 and took his first law enforcement job in Denison, Iowa. Jerry and Shirley were blessed with a baby girl Gayle in 1968. By 1971 Jerry became Denison’s Chief of Police. Shirley passed away in 1972. In 1974 Jerry took a new opportunity with the State of Iowa as one of the six state arson investigators. He married Cheryl Haase along with her son Ty, and they settled in Spencer for fifteen years. Receiving a promotion in 1989 to Assistant State Fire Marshal, they made the move to Johnston. Making the move to the metro opened many doors for Jerry’s family.

Jerry loved the Hawkeyes ‘win or lose’, the oldies but goodies TV Westerns, classic collector cars and Corvettes. Jerry became the best college football coach that never coached. Jerry owned every tool known to man. Along with the unique ability to attract super talented “Handyman” friends that knew how to use them.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their lake house on Lake Panorama. Even though he complained about the overwhelming fall leaf, hickory nut, and acorn population. Any other event to get together was what he always looked forward to. Making memories always!

Jerald is survived by his wife, Cheryl Corbett, daughter, Gayle (Kip) McMillen of Clive, IA; son, Tyler (Dawn Grooters) Haase of West Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren, Zachary (Alyssa) McMillen, Katie (Alexa ) McMillen, Annemarie McCoy, Elizabeth McCoy; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer McMillen, Benson McMillen; sister, Mary (Rick) Miller; sister-in-law, Cindy (Gary) Seastrom; He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Corbett, father, James Corbett, mother-in-law, Lillian Haase, father-in-law, Vernon Haase, first wife, Shirley Corbett.
