Obituary

Our beloved Thomas (Tom) passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2022. Tom was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 15, 1958, to William and Jean Hackett. After Tom graduated from Saydel High School in 1977. Tom continued his education by taking college courses at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). He went on to work at United Parcel Service (UPS) from 1976 to 2018 and briefly worked part-time at Adventureland where he would meet the love of his life.

In 1983, Tom married Barbara Ernst in Des Moines, Iowa. Tom and Barbara went on to have five sons, Kevin, Matthew, Timothy, Kirk, and Joseph Hackett.

In 2018, Tom retired from UPS after achieving over 30 years of safe driving, and spent time fulfilling his dreams and building a retirement home with his wife Barbara. He enjoyed evening movies and snacks with his family, spending time with his sons, playing with his two dogs, doing landscaping and home improvement, and driving his golf cart around Madrid and his backyard.

Tom was preceded in death by his father William Hackett. He is survived by his wife Barbara Hackett, his mother Jean Hackett, his sons Kevin, Matthew, Timothy, Kirk, and Joseph Hackett, his brothers William (Alice) and Gerald (Paula) Hackett and his sister Deborah Owens, his in-laws Jim and Marcella Ernst, his sister-in-law Brenda (Steven) VanVossen, his daughter-in-law Melanie Hackett, his grandson Antony Anderson, and many nieces and nephews.
