Obituary

Craig Wigton was born in Des Moines on November 29, 1951 and died peacefully at home on January 2nd, 2023. He lived a great life and had many adventures with friends and family.

Craig graduated from Hoover High School in 1970, and graduated from University of Northern Iowa in 1974. He had a long career in the insurance and annuity industry, working for Equitable Life, Equitable of Iowa and American Equity. His profession allowed him to live and work in Fresno, California and Portland, Maine. He made many friends in his travels and experienced many grand adventures.

He treasured his annual visits to his family cabin on Lake Kabetogama, Minnesota, surrounded by the beauty of the Northern woods. An avid sports fan, he suffered through the inconsistencies of the Chicago Cubs and cheered on the Hawks, the Cyclones and the Panthers. Craig was a talented musician and played saxophone with the Greater Des Moines Concert Band and the Beaver Creek Jazz Ensemble. He stayed active in his community and was a long time member of Singles Again and was a congregant at New Beginnings Christian Church.

He leaves behind a sister, Christine Classick (Nicholas), of Parker Colorado, and a brother, Steve Wigton (Cindy), of Des Moines. He also enjoyed the company of his two nieces, one nephew, two great nieces and three great nephews. His parents, Edward Wigton and Marjorie Bauserman Wigton, preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 3:00-5:30 at the Living History Farms Visitor Center. There will be an open house, with a small service beginning at 4:00 where we will ask friends and family to share a favorite memory of Craig. In the words of Bob Hope, “Thanks for the memories”.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Greater Des Moines Concert Band, Beaver Creek Jazz Ensemble, or New Beginnings Christian Church. For full information and to express online condolences please visit www.Ilescares.com.
