Obituary

Blaine Ostergaard, at the age of 49, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, with his family lovingly surrounding him.

He was born on Sunday, November 18, 1973, in Des Moines, Iowa to Carolyn (Shanahan) Ostergaard and Don Ostergaard. He was a 1992 graduate of Hoover High School. Blaine was a self-employed carpenter for over 17 years. He also helped many people with their home projects. Blaine made his home in Indianola, Iowa. He liked being out in the country and enjoyed gardening.

Blaine was an avid outdoorsman as he liked to hunt, fish and trap with family and friends. He made many trips across the United States and Canada to pursue his passion. His first trip to Canada he left the last day of kindergarten when he had poison ivy and his eyes were partially swollen shut. His mother was worried, and his dad said he would be fine. On his return, the poison ivy was gone. Blaine spent a lot of time hunting and fishing with his dad and brother Wayne and followed in their footsteps from a very young age. As Blaine grew older, he continued these experiences with his friends. He enjoyed sharing his hobbies with the younger generation.

Blaine was married for 10 years to Angie and remained friends throughout life. He taught Angie how to hunt and fish and they enjoyed these hobbies together. They liked animals and had a dog, cat, horse, a ferret and a hedgehog. They enjoyed traveling to different countries and in the United States.

Blaine also had a love for dogs and bred two litters of labs. His last dog was named Bear and was a good companion to him. He had several nicknames from his family and friends, Blaine and his niece Samantha shared the nickname of Guy when Blaine named her that, Sheryl’s nickname was Little Fat Buddy from the Dukes of Hazard and Big B by a close friend.

In his younger years, he played baseball at Beaverdale Little League and was coached by his dad. This is also where Blaine learned to drive tractors and help take care of the fields. He then grew into an enjoyment for trucks. Blaine also played football in high school. He enjoyed watching the Cubs, Vikings and TCU. At a young age, Blaine learned how to play cribbage. He enjoyed playing with family and friends and was always ready for a game.

Blaine is survived by his mother Carolyn; sister Shawn Sly; brother Wayne (LuAnn) Ostergaard; sister Sheryl Johnson (Jerry); sister Stacey (Alan) Bowles and Angie Ostergaard. His nieces and nephews include Joshua (Amanda) Ostergaard, Jason (Meghan) Ostergaard, Samantha (John) Neel, Jeffery Sly, Andrew Bowles, Christopher Bowles and Abbigail Bowles. His great nieces and nephews include Isla, Eleanor, and Maxwell Ostergaard, Clara, Keaton, Nolan, Felicity, Violet and Barrett Ostergaard, Elsie and Aniston Neel. Also, his dog Bear and cat Newton.

He was preceded in death by his dad and aunt.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for a memorial to be donated in his name.
