Obituary

F. Lorraine Becker, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2023.

Lorraine was born in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, to Lilah M (Brown) and William M. Donlin, the first of five children. She was raised in LeMars, where she attended and graduated from LeMars Public High School in 1943, Salutatorian of her class, in the midst of World War II. She immediately started her life long career as secretary, first to the Superintendent of LeMars Public Schools and eventually to various attorney firms in Harlan and Des Moines, Iowa, the last being Howes & Anderson, finally retiring at age 87!

She married her long-time friend and neighbor, Gene E. Becker, in 1949, and they were the proud parents of three beautiful daughters, Lynne Schaub, Pamela Christensen and Kathleen West who blessed them with six very much loved grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Richard West, son-in-law Lynn Christensen, her parents, a sister and three brothers.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 4300 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., and a light luncheon will be served following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
