Obituary

Dan was raised on a farm near Granger, Iowa. He had four brothers David, Richard, Joseph and Michael and two sisters Janet and Mary Ann. Dan had 18 nephews and nieces. Dan received a B.A. from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. He attended O.C.S. and entered the United States Navy, after graduation as a lieutenant. Dan worked for the Central Intelligence Agency and was a civil service programmer systems analyst and worked in logistics management. He worked in the pre-computer age and had to get on a plane and travel to get the job done. When he worked for the government it was mainly on construction jobs with the Corps of Engineers, Naval Construction Battalions and Air Force Construction. Dan traveled to all 50 states in the USA. Dan has been to Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, North America and Antarctica. He has lived in the following places: Bahamas, Canada, Diego Garcia, Egypt, Estonia, Germany, Iran, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Saudi Arabia.

If anyone ever needed help Dan was there. He was the nicest, kindest, caring person you could ever meet. He called his family and close friends every Sunday for years. Dan retired in December 1999 and moved to Houston, Texas where he lived in Clarewood House Retirement Community - Dan loved the people and the facility very much,

Dan was preceded in by his parents Anthony Costello & Marie Costello, and his siblings, David Costello, Richard Costello, and Janet Costello Fix.

Dan’s surviving sibling’s are Joseph (Barbie) Costello of Granger, Iowa, Michael Costello of Woodward, Iowa, and Mary Ann Costello Kinkade (Bruce) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Private inurnment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter at a later date.
