Obituary

Eldon Jay Brown, 79, of Grimes, IA, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

Eldon was born April 16, 1944, in Des Moines, IA, son of Harry Raymond and Orpha Irene (Laudner) Brown. Eldon lived in Grimes his whole life and was the last to graduate from Grimes High School. He was proud of his time in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in Germany.

Eldon was a Boy Scout Leader and loved to go hunting and fishing. He was also very active in the Beaver Creek Plainsman and the Black Ducks BuckSkinners.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Orpha Brown, his sister Charlotte and brother Robin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary (Irving) Brown, son James, daughter Melinda (Michael) Prall, grandchildren Jonathan (Becca), and Madeleine, great grandchildren Rowan, Elizabeth (whom he called Pete) and Oliver-Kaide (whom he called O-Liver).

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center. Graveside services to follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. A Celebration of Life will also be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Lifehouse Community Church at 4095 NW Urbandale Drive Urbandale, IA 50322.
