Obituary

Michael “Mike” James Perkins was born July 3rd, 1982 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Linda Perkins and Jim Grant. He passed away on September 3rd, 2023, at the age of 41.

Growing up Mike shared an extremely strong bond with his sister Ashley. They did everything together from watching scary movies to playing baseball. He was always there for her! Not one day went by without talking or texting her. Their bond was unbreakable!

Mike’s most enjoyable moments were with friends and family. Mike had an electric personality and made friends with just about anyone he met. He enjoyed hockey, trolling on Facebook especially during the Iowa/Iowa State Football game, and had a great love for music. His most memorable and enjoyable moments included BBQ’s/game nights with friends, attending concerts, watching football or UFC fights, and playing video games. Mike had a love for sports and enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Colorado Avalanche.
He was most proud of his children and shared a very special bond with each of them.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; Aunt, Lorie Bellis; Uncle, Bill Perkins; Nephew, Logan Whisenhunt.

He is survived by his four children, Michael Legan of Rochester, Minnesota; Kayleigh Perkins, Kerstyn Perkins, and Cameron Perkins of Windsor Heights, two sisters, Ashley (Cordell) Miller, of Indianola, Shonna (Matt) Masters of Missouri; two brothers, Danny Perkins of Des Moines, Justin Venard of Missouri; four nieces, Patience Perkins, Sophia Miller, Chloe Whisenhunt, Jade Venard; four nephews, Jaxson Miller, Jordan Whisenhunt, Justin Venard, Colt Venard; Cousins Ryan Fledman of Des Moines, Billy Perkins of Des Moines.

Mike shared an extremely close bond with many of his friends and they were more like brothers then friends. Honorary brothers; Dallas Gamble, Brian Haywood, Myles Gobel, Troy Klein, Johnny Jenniges, Frank Plumley, Kyle McEnroe, Kerry McEnroe Pat Alexander, Nick Moline.

Celebration of life will be on Sunday, September 24th, 2023, at 1:00 pm at IOOF Sherman Lodge 576. Located at 2340 East 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa
