George Bandstra

George Wesley Bandstra, 77, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023. Memorial service 2 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2023 at Iles Westover Chapel. His family will greet friends beginning at 1 p.m.

George was born August 4, 1946, in Pella, IA, to Paul and Mildred (Verhey) Bandstra. He grew up on a farm near Sandridge, Iowa. George married Mary Lou (Reed ) Bandstra on August 31, 2002 in Clive, Iowa. He worked as an electrical linesman and was a member of IBEW Local 55. George took an active interest in managing his farm. He loved nature and spending time walking outdoors.

George was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals. He loved traveling and vacationing in Florida. George was an loving husband, brother, and uncle. He was a friend to many. George volunteered for the Urbandale Food Pantry and was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope.

George is survived by his Wife, Mary Lou Bandstra; Two Sisters, Jeanne Wells of Park Ridge, IL, Mary DeJong of Pella, IA; Brother, Stuart Bandstra; Step-son, Jeff J Burns. He was preceded in death by his parents; Sister, Gloria Bandstra; Brothers: John and Andy Bandstra; Step-son, Richard Burns.

Contributions may be made to the Urbandale Food Pantry, St. Jude's Hospital for Children, University of Iowa College of Medicine.
