James Henry Hanna, 79, died January 16, 2024 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Jim was a long-time resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma and spent the last three years in Clive, Iowa. Graveside service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa at a later date.

Jim was born in Atkins, Arkansas to George and Grace Rankin-Hanna on September 5, 1944. He was the 9th of 10 children. Jim graduated from Edison High School in 1962. He served 4 years in the US Army. After serving his country he went on to receive a degree in Accounting from Oklahoma School of Business. He worked in the Oil and Gas industry over 20 years at Unit Rig and Equipment Company. He also worked in the Aerospace industry spending several years at both Rockwell Industries and McDonnell Douglas before retiring. He was a diligent and hard worker. Jim was meticulous in all he did.

Jim loved his family, good food, movies and fishing. He knew every breakfast place within 100 miles of Tulsa and he was always on the lookout for a good piece of pie. If you visited Jim, you would find at least 5 different flavors of ice cream in the freezer and he would never turn down a trip to the ice cream shoppe. He had a passion for the movies and introduced his grandchildren to all genres, but the James Bond series and Star Wars Saga were by far the favorites. He was a long-term member of the Church of Christ. He had a strong faith and was steadfast. He considered following his father, uncle, and brother’s footsteps to become a preacher. Although he had many trials in this world, he considered joy and happiness a choice. He didn’t have a lot of material possessions but he considered everything a blessing. He enjoyed everything in life to the fullest.

He married Georgia Lea Spencer on February 10, 1967 in Sperry, Oklahoma. The couple met at Webers Root Beer Stand in Tulsa, Oklahoma and were married three months later. They enjoyed nearly 57 years together. Jim and Georgia moved to Iowa in their later years and made many friends in the Des Moines area. They enjoyed their weekly bingo and breakfast with friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Georgia Lea and their two children; daughter, Jamie Brandon and her husband Russell and their two children, Kathryn and Zachary Brandon; son, Blake Hanna and his wife Wendy and their two children Lauren and Luke; sister, Mildred Thompson and her husband Marion; brother, Everett (Louis) Hanna and his wife Kay; sister, Faye Howard and her husband Gary and numerous nieces and nephews.
