Walter (Wally) Boe was born on February 25, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Walter Boe Sr. and Lillian (Pikal) Boe. Wally graduated from South High School in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the Navy in 1950. He traveled around the world for four years on the ship USS Cone, until his discharge in June of 1954. Later that year he married his wife of 69 ½ years, Doris Stanley. They were blessed with three daughters, Dawn, Sue and Lois.

Soon after discharge, Wally began a career at Nabisco in Minneapolis and later moved his family to Des Moines, Iowa to become the Branch Manager. His 38-year career flourished until his retirement in 1991. Wally had a second career with Iles Funeral Homes where he worked as a greeter and funeral assistant for many years.

Wally came to know Christ as his Savior shortly after the birth of his first daughter, Dawn. He loved the Lord, served in many roles at church and modeled his faith throughout life. He mentioned several times before he died that he was ready to go be with Jesus, and on his deathbed was singing praises to the Lord, surrounded by many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He reminded us often that he prayed daily for each of us by name. His greatest desire was that all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would come to know the Lord.

Walter was preceded in death by his sisters, June Bashara, Genevieve Kurz and Roberta Boe and his brother, Samuel Boe.

Walter is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters; Dawn (Ted) Sage, Sue (Dave) Heckert and Lois (Brad) Lundy; grandchildren; Jesse (Elisabeth), Aaron (Michelle), Andy (Amanda), Joel (Jessica), Ben (Bobbi), Rebekah (Mike), Jonathan (Nicole), Jake, Rachel (Caldwell), Eric (Rebecca), Andrea (JD), Brooke (Jonathan) and Jay (Eliyah). Also counted in his legacy are 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson as well as Janice Boe his sister-in- law and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Memorial donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. The funeral service will be livestreamed. A link will appear on Wally's obituary page (just prior to the service) at, where you may also leave online condolences.
