Roland James (Jim) Rinell, 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 . Jim was born in Minneapolis on September 10, 1948 to Roland and Helen Rinell. He was the eldest of eight children.

He is survived by his wife Barb, and daughters Sharie Sutton (Tom), Nikki Delzer (Darren), and son Sean Rinell. Barb brought three bonus kids to the union; Michael Anderson (Anika), Amy Anderson, and Christian Anderson (Catherine).

Jim’s siblings are Mike Rinell (Barb), George Rinell (Sylvia), Debbie Gregg (Jim), Julie Roach (David) and Pam deRosier (Matt).

Jim loved his 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons with a great granddaughter on the way. He was proceeded in death by his parents and sisters Cheryl and Sandy.

He grew up in Hermantown, Minn. and did well in high school sports and loved being outside in the woods camping, fishing & hunting at his family’s farm - affectionally called Blueberry Hill. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a major in Fish and Wildlife. He has been a Gopher fan ever since. He was performing wildlife research for the University when he was drafted into the military. He served on active duty in the Army from January 1971 until February 1977. He later joined the National Guard in May 1977, serving until his military retirement in August 2008. Additionally, Jim worked for the State of Iowa Dept of Public Defense-at Camp Dodge for over 27 years.

When away from work, Jim enjoyed golfing, spending time with grandchildren, and with our church and Danish friends.
