Suzanne Pinnell, a longtime resident of the Des Moines area, died May 9th at her home in Windsor Heights, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18th at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 4126 Ingersoll Avenue followed by a reception.

Born in Keokuk, Iowa on March 16, 1940, Suzanne was the daughter of Robert Wesley Pinnell and (Barbara) Elizabeth Brasher Pinnell. Because her father was a Methodist Minister, there were a few moves throughout her childhood; to Wellman, Iowa where she went to kindgergarten-2nd grade, then to Ames, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1958. After some time at ISU, she enrolled at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing where she graduated in 1969, beginning a 37-year career as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital. She was the first 11-7 RN to staff the Emergency Department. From there she moved into a Night House Supervisor position where she enjoyed her dual role of supervisor and clinician.

Suzanne’s interests included traveling the US, family reunions, photography, reading all things printed and sharing information with others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sylvia. She is survived by her brother Bob, (Robert Wesley Pinnell), many nieces and nephews and her longtime friend, housemate, co-worker, and soulmate, Jan Tungesvick.

Her nieces are Emily Ann Murphy (Joe) of Bradenton, FL, Megan Elizabeth Brumfelder (Alex) of Boulder, CO, their children Nolan 6 and Nash 4, her nephew Gregory Lakin Pinnell (Emily) of Mendota Heights, MN their children Grace 15, Sophia 12, Everly 8, and Bodhi 3.

Donations may be made to Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ or Iowa Methodist School of Nursing Alumni Association.

A special thank you to all the neighbors, friends, past co-workers, UnityPoint Hospice and especially “Friends Home Care & Hospice” for their 24/7 care so Suzanne could stay in our home. I will forever be grateful to Melissa and her staff.
