Obituary

Bobby (Bob) Darling Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, in Grimes, IA. He was born on March 28, 1944, to Bobby Darling Sr. and Velta Darling (Willis) of Des Moines, IA.

Bob was a proud graduate of Tech High School and Grandview College in Des Moines, IA. He embarked on a successful career as the proud owner of Bob’s Towing Service, a business he passionately ran from January 1, 1970, to March of 2008. After retiring from the towing service, he worked for @ Your Service Transportation where he enjoyed every moment.

Throughout his life, Bob was known for his vibrant personality and always ready to share a story with a smile on his face. He had a deep passion for classic cars, particularly his cherished 1964 Chevy El Camino, and was an active member of the Rollin Relics Car Club.

At the age of 13, Bob met the love of his life, Marilyn Darling (Hall). Their love story spanned 7 years before they exchanged vows on October 17, 1964. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. They moved from Des Moines to Madison, Wisconsin, where they lived for 5 years before a brief move to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Bob worked as an electrical engineer. Ultimately, they returned permanently to Des Moines, where Bob and his father built their first tow truck.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Darling, and their children: Michael (Teri) Darling, Bill (Ashlie) Darling, and Kelly (Duane) Claussen. He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 9 great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sisters-in-law Carole Jenkins, Kathy (Robert) McMains, Debbie (Craig) Ades, as well as many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless cherished friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Darling Sr. and Velta Darling, his sister Kathleen McMains, and twin grandson and granddaughter.

Bob’s kindness, laughter, a zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, forever cherished in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
