Obituary

Marilyn Deavers, 80, died peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11:30 am Saturday, August 24th at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Marilyn was born June 12, 1944 in Schenectady, New York to Paul Humphrey and Verla Chapman. She grew up in Lemon Grove, California.

Marilyn enjoyed playing her flute at church, reading voraciously, learning French, and listening to music. She was a foodie who enjoyed a Whopper Jr. just as much as a plate of scallops and a glass of wine. She was devoted to caring for everyone around her, making sure that no one felt left out. She loved traveling, especially to California, Rocky Mountain National Park, Hawaii, and France.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Laura (Mike), her nieces and nephews Joanna (Paul), Ron (Arlene), Michael (Katy), David (Julie), Denice and their children and grandchildren, as well as many other cherished cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Dan, brother Roger and his wife CJ, her sister-in-law Jeannine, nephew, Paul, grand-nephew, David and dear friend Abbie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Public Radio, Windsor Heights Lutheran Church or WesleyLife Foundation (for Meals on Wheels).
