Obituary

Marilyn Marie Schoon, 81, Norwalk, Iowa died Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, with her family at her side. She was born January 4, 1943 in Swea City, Iowa to Chauncey Oliver & Mary Margaret (Moore) Waterbury.

Marilyn was a worker bee. She was employed by Principal Financial Group for 44 years, and later HyVee. She never knew a stranger and made everyone feel welcome and special. You always had no doubt what she thought of any topic or people because she had no filter. She was not mean spirited, just direct and truthful in her own extroverted way. The grandchildren would marvel at what she had to say.

Marilyn’s family always came first. She was the families ‘rock’, a strong woman who passed that strength on to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When not busy (seldom) she loved to read.

Survivors include daughters Marla (Pat) Smith & Maralee (Matt) Stevenson; grandchildren Christopher (Melissa), Ashley (Mike), Mika, Morgan (Kyle), Tori (Weston), and Todd; and known as ‘Minga’ by some of the ten great grandchildren; sister Karen, brother Richard; six nieces & nephews; former coworkers Pat & Cindy whom she met for lunch once a month; and lastly Kevie the cat.

Preceding her is death were parents Chauncey and Mary, brothers Gary & Merlin, and granddaughter Mia.

A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 4:00pm, Monday, August 12, 2024 at The Wright Place, 340 Wright Road, Suite A, Norwalk, Iowa 50211. The family will greet friends till 7:00pm following the service.
