Obituary

Julie Palmer of Runnells, Iowa, age 72 passed away peacefully at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines on Monday August 26, 2024.

Born on November 25, 1951, as the only child to Lillian ‘Jean’ and Jack Gorman. Born and raised on the east side of Des Moines, Julie attended Cattell Elementary School, Amos Hiatt Middle School and East High School where she made lifelong friends. If you were lucky enough to be Julie’s friend, you were a friend for life. If you knew Julie at all, you knew there was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family and friends. She was a remarkable woman and will be deeply missed by anyone who knew her.

After graduating from East High School, Julie married Larry Palmer on September 12, 1970, had five daughters, moved from their home in Des Moines and settled into their home in Runnells. Julie loved decorating for every holiday, treasured getting the family together for any reason but loved a bonfire at their acreage and greatly enjoyed attending sporting events the grandchildren were involved in.

While being a homemaker was her focus as the girls grew up, she took on some employment opportunities later in life. She was the administrative assistant for Centennial United Methodist Church at Ivy, in Altoona, Iowa for many years. She also took on the same position at Altoona Christian Church, in Altoona, Iowa. While the girls were in school, Julie took positions on the Parent & Teacher Association, and was an active ‘homeroom mother’ at their school.

Julie is survived by her loving husband of almost 54 years Larry, daughters, Amy Palmer (Nikky) Pleasant Hill, IA, Kristin Current (Michael) Bondurant, IA, Katy Michael (Dave) Pleasant Hill, IA, Karry Fernandez, St. Joseph, MO, Libby Johns (Shane) Altoona, IA. Grandchildren Tanner Current (Carolyn), Riley Current, Connor Michael (Katie), Emily Michael, Paige Doran, Spencer Johns, Collin Johns (Emma), Gabriella Fernandez. The newest addition to the family, great grandchild Ellie Kay Current. Her and Larry’s fur baby Laurel. Grand-furbabies Minni, Drake, Olivia, Marley, Bailey, Bruno, Max, Biggz, Hank and Oreo.

Preceded in death by her parents Jack Gorman and Lillian ‘Jean’ Gorman.

A memorial service will be held at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home, 3211 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317on Wednesday September 4, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. The family requests the attire to be informal, just as Julie would have wanted it to be.
