Obituary

Bobbi Marie (Oliver) Dings, passed away on September 15, 2024 at age 68 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Bobbi had many friends and family that loved her dearly. She was one of the most selfless people always giving of her time, good food and more. We know life has not been easy for her these last few years, but she lived for all of us. She finally went to be with our Heavenly Father, the love of her life, Sam (husband) and dog, Chloe. We know she will not be in pain any longer.

Bobbi was born May 30, 1956 to Bob and Maxine Oliver, growing up, she enjoyed many memories of being the youngest of three girls. She and her two older sisters, Gloria Scholl and Joyce Byrne, have remained close throughout the years. After graduating from Dowling High School (St. Joseph’s Academy) in 1974 she began her career in the insurance industry. She spent 20 years working for Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company as the Business Manager and as a Tax Preparer/Office Manager for H&R Block for over 20 additional years.

She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Family time was most important to her, she hosted many gatherings as she was the glue that held her family together. A few of her favorite family activities include; the tradition her and Sam started bringing the kids, grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews and parents to Lake Okoboji, making tortellini during the holidays with the family, and cherished the travels she and Sam had throughout the years building many memories.

Bobbi was married to Sam for over 41 years, who preceded her in death on July 4, 2024. With Sam, they raised 4 children: Kristin (Craig) Geppert, Lonnie (Kasey) Dings, Jenny (Brad) Ruden, and Nick Dings. Bobbi was also proceeded in death by her grandparents Charles and Esther McClain, Robert and Victoria Oliver, her step-father, Charles Lavia, her step-son Jon Dings, Sr., her grand-daughter, Ashli Dings and sister-in-law, Georgia Ochoa.

Bobbi also loved being a grandma, she was a grandma to 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Bobbi’s passions were to pour into those around her and she cared deeply for her friends and family. She wishes to remind them to live life to the fullest and always be good to yourself! And to her grandchildren…she loved them more than life itself ~ she will watch over you and wishes only the best for each and every one of you.

Visitation will be held from 5-8PM on Friday, September 20th at Iles Funeral Home - Westover Chapel with a Rosary at 4PM. The funeral will be Saturday, September 21st at 10AM at St. Mary’s of Nazareth, with a burial service to follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, IA. The family would like to extend an invitation for all to join them at the Grimes Community Center, across from the cemetery, (410 SE Main St, Grimes, IA 50111) following the burial service for a luncheon in Bobbi’s honor.
