Obituary

Patricia Caroline Sayre, 93, Des Moines, Iowa died Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Valley View Village. She was born March 15, 1931 in Humeston, Iowa to Howard E. and Neva R. (Helt) Gibbs.

Patricia moved to Des Moines after high school graduation. She met her husband, Richard Sayre, while working at Central Tractor. He held the door open for her once and she told her friends she was going to marry him one day. They were married before a year was up. Over the years, besides Central Tractor, Pat worked at Look Magazine, and AID Insurance. After Richard’s death she enjoyed selling Avon.

Family was everything to her. She would host family dinners and holidays, loving to hear everyone talking, laughing, and enjoying each others company. Patricia was the go to babysitter for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pat was ornery. Following a fall when being transported from the hospital ER to her room the attendant had to take a longer route than usual. Several times she would yell out “Are we there yet ?!” “Where are we going ? Timbuktu ?!”

Survivors include children Glen Sayre & Jackie, Vicki Grooms, grandkids Tracy Fitzgerald, Richard Sayre & Angie, Deana Grooms, great grandkids Nikki Taylor & Adam, Jessie Fitzgerald, Masyn Sayre, Avery Sayre, Jayce Moore, great great grandchild Mila Duncan, brother Howard ‘Butch’ Gibbs & Susie, sisters in law Pat Logan, Janie Sayre, other relatives and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Richard Sayre, sister Pauline Williams, father Howard Gibbs, mother Neva Gibbs, and niece Terri Fulton.

A private family graveside service will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
