Obituary

Mary Ann Budler, age 94, of Johnston, Iowa, passed away September 27, 2024, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center with family by her side. Mary Ann was born December 16, 1929, in Touhy, Nebraska to William and Mary (Kobza) Bartek. Mary Ann graduated from Lincoln Cathedral High School in 1946 and graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce with studies in bookkeeping and shorthand. While working as a bookkeeper at Ben Simon’s department store in Lincoln Nebraska, she met the love of her life, Jack Budler, and they were married August 11, 1956. Mary Ann and Jack were blessed with four children: Gene, Michelle, Tom and Cletus. Mary Ann and family lived in Lincoln until 1972 when the family moved to North Platte. Mary Ann worked at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center (GPRMC) as the admissions supervisor until she retired. Mary Ann enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends and frequently volunteered at GPRMC and the Saint Patrick’s Bargain Bin. During their retirement, Mary Ann and Jack enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren in Iowa, Kentucky, Florida, Idaho, Nebraska and Puerto Rico.

Mary Ann is survived by daughter, Michelle Slaton (Joe) of Pembroke Pines, Florida; three sons, Gene Budler (Leesa) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Tom Budler (Cindy) of Norwalk, Iowa and Cletus Budler (Brenda) of Chadron, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; Jonathan and Javier Slaton, Josh and Alexis Budler; and Stefani, Shelby and Tyson Budler; and nine great-grandchildren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dolores Steyer and brothers, William Bartek and Jerome Bartek, and daughter-in-law, Susie (Tom).

Catholic rosary will be 7:00p.m. Monday October 7, 2024 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3128 S Street, Lincoln, with Father Valerian Bartek celebrant. Interment will take place after the mass at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln.
