Obituary

Richard Duane McRunnels, 91, of Perry, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024, at Aspire of Perry under the compassionate care of Hospice of the Midwest.

A lifelong learner with a deep love for reading and philosophy, Richard spent his days immersed in learning various languages and exploring the world of computer technology. He had a passion for understanding the world around him and always sought to expand his knowledge. Richard had a special love for animals and dedicated much of his time to caring for them in his younger years.

He is survived by his sister, Justa Sturies of Ogden, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Rans; stepfather, W.W. McRunnels; his brothers, Bill McRunnels, Max McRunnels, and Jim McRunnels; and his sister, Alice Menz.

Richard’s legacy as a thoughtful and intelligent individual will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all who cared for and understood Richard, honoring him as the amazing man he was. Arrangements are being handled by Iles Funeral Home in Dallas Center, Iowa.
