Obituary

Gilbert Leroy Gillman, 89, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away at Valley View Village. Funeral Services will be held at Iles Grandview Park Chapel on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11 am. Visitation will be on Monday, December 2 from 5-7 pm. Interment will be at Berwick Cemetery.

Gilbert Leroy Gillman was born June 24, 1935 in Wayne County, Iowa to Marvin and Mabel (Roberts) Gillman. He met and later married his high school sweetheart from Woodside High School, Judy Jane Carr, on July 3, 1953. Together they raised their family in Des Moines.

Gilbert retired after working as a diesel mechanic and terminal manager for Macmillan Oil for 43 years. He enjoyed going to stock car races. He and Judy loved being outdoors and camping especially at Twin Anchors in Colo, Iowa. Gilbert was active in his church and loved spending time with his family.

Gilbert is survived by his children: Ed (Elizabeth), Jim (Sheri), and Gaylon (Dee) Gillman; grandchildren: Kesli, Michael, Jamie, Aubrey, Josh, Kristin, Dayna, Emily, Rachel, Delena, and Shawna; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Aydrien, Margo, Jalen, Jayden, Landyn, Ariana, Chevy, Abigail, Katie, Sadler, and Canton; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy; parents; and sisters Margaret and Mavis.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Berwick Congregational Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
