Obituary

Steven “Steve“ Guy Martin, 46, passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2025. A memorial gathering for his friends and family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Iles Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA. A time for sharing will begin at 6:30 p.m., and cremation rites have been accorded.

Steven was born on December 25, 1978, in Joliet, Illinois to Jerry and Gwen (Mercado) Martin. His family lived in Joliet until 1988, when they moved to Minooka, Illinois. He graduated from Minooka Community High School in 1997. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and he worked as a clinical pharmacist in the Des Moines area.

Steven was cherished by his family and his many friends. He loved music and performing karaoke. He was a fixture around town wearing his suits and bowties. He was an avid reader and collector of movies, television shows (especially Doctor Who), arcade games, video games, and board games. Steven’s enthusiasm brought joy to others in life, and his bright light will be deeply missed.

Steven is remembered with love by his parents, Jerry and Gwen Martin, and his brother, Michael (Maggie) Martin. He leaves behind his nephews, Ian and Camden, and his grandmother, Audrey Mercado. Fond memories remain with his aunts and uncles, Gail (Jeff) Schwartz, Guy (Kayoko) Mercado, Geri Pitts, Glenda Mercado, Janet Radakovitz (Rick), Mark Martin, and Karen Winters, as well as numerous cousins and their families.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Mercado, Joyce Winters, and Arid Martin, cousin Brian Lopez, as well as aunt and uncles, Dale Martin, Roger Martin, Ginger Winters, and Donald Pitts.
