Obituary

Darrell Eugene Aldrich, 82, of Clive, Iowa, passed away January 30, 2025, after a fall at his home. Services will be Friday, February 7, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Iles Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines. Friends may call from 5 - 7 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Iles Westover Chapel, where the family will be present.

Darrell was born in Des Moines on October 26, 1942, to Arthur (Art) and Norma (nee Clausen) Aldrich. He grew up on the east side of Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1961 and remained a loyal East High Scarlet until his death. He went on to Grandview College to play basketball and then graduated from Drake University. While at Drake, he met Evelyn Congdon and they were married in Des Moines on June 20, 1964.

He enlisted in the Army where he rose to the rank of First Lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam. He was very proud of his service to his country.

In 1969, Darrell and Ev settled in Urbandale and in 1972, their daughter Tanya was born. Darrell began his corporate career with Dial Finance and remained there until his retirement in 1998 (then Wells Fargo Financial). After his corporate retirement, he spent many years as an ambassador at Willis Automotive where he made new friends and enjoyed connecting with friends from all stages of his life.

In 1999, Darrell married Linda Kimm and moved to Clive. He always enjoyed attending activities for all their grandchildren, going to Urbandale sporting events and watching his Drake Bulldogs and Iowa State Cyclones.

Darrell didn’t know a stranger and will be missed by many.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Tanya (Doug) Feldman of Windsor Heights; step-daughter, Tisha (John Gray) of Clive; step-son, Todd (Polly) Kimm of Urbandale; eight grandchildren: Conner (Brenna) Feldman of Des Moines, Carson Feldman of New York, Hunter Feldman of Scottsdale, Jessica Gray of Colorado Springs, Taylor Gray of Coralville, Tara (Jordan) Brown of Story City, Kaitlin (Bruce) Alter of Oklahoma City and Trevor (Lauren) Kimm of Nashville; 5 great-grandchildren; his niece, Tami Sloan and many cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his first wife, his second wife and his sister, Ardy Sloan.

Memorial contributions may be directed to VA Central Iowa Health Care System.

For those unable to attend the service, a livestream link will appear on Darrell's obituary page at www.IlesFuneralHomes.com, where you may also leave online condolences.
