Obituary

Linda May Thompson, 77, of Waukee, Iowa passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025 at MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center, West Des Moines, Iowa. A gathering for friends and family will be held from 6-8pm, Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Iles Brandt Chapel, 1301 Ash Street, Dallas Center, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 11am, Friday, March 14, 2025 at Dallas Center Cemetery (formerly Masonic Cemetery), 25561 - 250th Street, Dallas Center, Iowa.

Linda was born in Des Moines on November 23, 1947, to parents, Delbert “Shorty” and June Chambers. She grew up in Dallas Center-Grimes area and graduated from Dallas Center Grimes High School. She started her working career at Parker Brothers in Urbandale and later worked in food service for the Dexfield School System.

Linda enjoyed bowling and traveling with the love of her life, Billy D. Jonas. She loved being around children, and her home was always open to her children’s friends.

She is survived by her companion of 25 years, Billy D. Jonas; children, Rod (Valerie) Hawbaker and Eric (Dana) Thompson; grandchildren, Tayden, Kennedy, Reagan, Cooper and Sloane; siblings, Dennis Chambers, Cindy (Brian) Hansen, John (Lynn) Chambers and Randy (Denise) Chambers; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shannon Hawbaker and sister, Peggy Chambers.
