Obituary

David V. “Mo” Morris was born in December 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Vincent and Teresa Morris. He was raised in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School in 1980, laying the foundation for a life rich with diverse and meaningful experiences.

David’s career began as an EMT for Dallas County, where he provided critical care and support to those in need. He later transitioned into the meat processing industry, managing plants for Morrel, Smithfield, and Seaboard, where he demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to excellence. His professional journey culminated as a train conductor for Union Pacific Railroad, navigating the rails from Eastern Iowa to Missouri Valley and forging lasting bonds with his fellow railroaders.

Beyond his professional life, David was a man of many passions. He had a true love for cooking and found joy in the great outdoors—whether gardening, boating, or skiing. His affection for animals was clear to all who knew him, and he cherished the companionship they provided.

Family was at the heart of David’s life. He shared a special bond with his niece and nephews, always staying connected no matter where life took him. His friendships were equally treasured; he was always ready for a good party, great music, and a shared laugh.

David’s warmth, spirit, and joy for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire us.

David is survived by his brothers Steven, Patrick (Marilea), and Dan (Mindi); his sisters Susan Topping (Ron) and Ann Marie Lendved (Roger); as well as his niece, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Teresa Morris.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines.
