Obituary

Brenda Lee Steenhoek, 64, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 2, 2025. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 9:30-11:30am, at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines. The memorial service will follow beginning at 11:30am. A luncheon will follow at the Elk’s Lodge #98, 5420 NE 12th Avenue, Pleasant Hill.

Brenda was born July 2, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents, Marvin LeRoy and Margaret Jean (Shafer) Steenhoek. She graduated from SE Polk High School. She tended bar for The Stroll Inn for several years. For the last 17 years, she was the Elk’s Lodge club manager, where she found her second family and made lifelong friends.

Brenda’s life was her grandchildren and family. Her greatest joy was spoiling her grandchildren and nieces & nephews. Whether it was grilling out, swimming, riding her golf cart or simply spending quality time with those she loved . She was always up for an adventure. Always putting everybody above herself. Her contagious laugh and unending support will be missed by all who knew her.

Brenda is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 35 years, Paul; daughter, Ashlee (Eric) Cooper; grandchildren, Claire, Morgan, and Bennett Cooper; brother, Jeff (Sue) Steenhoek; nieces; Jessica Fry (Alexis, Logan and Lynndon), Dakota King and nephews; Daniel (Laurel, great-niece Diana) Steenhoek, Andrew Kirschbaum. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Jean and her sister, Kimberly Steenhoek.
