Obituary

Andrew M. Holcomb of Des Moines passed away on 10/21/2025 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 31 years old. Andrew was the beloved son of Christine and David Holcomb. He will be remembered as a man of strength, integrity, loyalty and compassion. Andrew served as an example for all of us by being kind, gentle and a light and strength for others.

From a young age, Andrew enjoyed the great outdoors. He was a Boy Scout, enjoyed camping and kayaking, going to beaches in Florida, and spending time on the Mississippi River with his extended family. He also had a love of everything motorized, especially cars and trucks. This led him to a degree and career in the auto collision and insurance industries.

Some of Andrew’s many accomplishments include competitive swimming for Ames High School, the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow award, being the first to swim the mile swim in his Boy Scout troop, technical expertise for his family, and I-CAR Platinum Pro Level 3 for Auto Appraising and Estimating (something few people completed at his young age).

Andrew will always be remembered with much love by his mother, Christine, who misses him tremendously, step-father John, grandparents Katherine Brown, Marie Holcomb, Dave Brown, Jr. (Mary Streich), best friends Nick and Cheri Shoemaker who were like siblings to him, aunts and uncles Betsy and Matt Busick (Elena and Anika), David and Linda Brown (Mac and George), Forest and Tina Brown (Reagan, Elliott and Delaney), Keith and Mary Holcomb (Michael, Rachel and family, Christina, and Sr. Mary Josefa), Bernie Holcomb (Nate, Tristen and Jared) and special cousins of the Tom Hamlett family.

Andrew was preceded in death by his father David, his paternal grandfather Paul, and his sweet dog Parker.

A visitation will be held 11/16/2025 from 1:30-3:00 pm at Temple B’nai Jeshurun, 5101 Grand Avenue in Des Moines with a funeral service and communion to follow. The pastors of Christ Community Church, Kelsey and Jacob Guckenberger (close friends of Andrew) will preside over the service. Family and friends are invited to stay for a meal and story telling immediately afterwards to celebrate Andrew’s life in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andrew’s name to Iowa Project AWARE (A Watershed Awareness River Expedition), Special Olympics of Iowa, or Guttenberg Family Resource Center in Guttenberg, Iowa.

Thank you, Andrew, for your love and support. We will miss you so very much, especially your smile and your gentle hugs, until we see you again. Keep watch over us as our angel in Heaven.
