Obituary

Frances S. Updike, 94, of Perry, Iowa, formerly of Woodward, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at MercyOne in Des Moines.

Frances was born on February 2, 1931, in Adel, Iowa, to Fred John and Sylvia Irene (Black) Schultze. She received her education in Adel and married Jack Updike on June 7, 1948, in Clarinda. Jack and Frances made their home in Woodward throughout their married life. For the past three years, Frances had made her home at Spring Valley Lutheran Home Assisted Living.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading and working word puzzles. She was an animal lover who especially liked watching the squirrels and birds from her window.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; son, Raeford; daughter, Rochelle; brothers, Robert, Russell, and Larry; and sisters, Clella and Margaret.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (David) Thornburg of Bouton, Iowa; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren and her brother Jack (Jane) Schultze of Van Meter, IA.

A private family burial will be held at Woodward Cemetery in Woodward, Iowa.
