Obituary

Duane G. Ziel, age 78, died November 18, 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2025 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines with interment at Glendale Cemetery. Duane was born February 14, 1947 in Des Moines to Harlan and Rita Ziel. He was a 1965 graduate of Dowling High School and a 1969 graduate of Immaculate Conception Seminary in Conception, MO.

Duane was employed by Helzberg Diamonds for 36 years, retiring in 2005. During his employment he was the top salesman for 17 years.

Duane was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus 11643 Council. He served on the Men’s Club and the St. Mary Auction committee.

He enjoyed walking, gardening, and was a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Terrier Wrigley. He is survived by his brother, Harlan F. (Louise) Ziel; nephews: Jeff (Kellie) Ziel and Greg (Angela) Ziel; 4 great nieces; and 1 great nephew.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 11643 Council or American Diabetes Association.
