Obituary

Randy Joe Magnani, 71, of Ankeny, IA, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by family.

Randy was born August 16, 1954, in Boone, IA, to Joe and C. Yvonne (McFarlane) Magnani. He grew up in Madrid, achieving Eagle Scout and graduating from Madrid High School in 1972. Randy attended Iowa State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1976.

Randy worked as an engineer for Marengo County, General Growth, and the Army Corps of Engineers. He worked for Structural Consultants in Des Moines, working on many signature buildings on the Iowa State University campus and the University of Iowa campus, including the Laser Lab. In 2001, he formed his own engineering firm, Dennis and Magnani, working on many prominent local structures, retiring in 2016.

Randy spent many years as a season ticket holder and avid tailgater of Iowa State football. Randy was known for his keen intellect, quick wit, and quiet humor. He was a champion at Trivial Pursuit and a ringer in league bowling.

Randy will be deeply missed by his mother, Yvonne, his children, Anthony Magnani and Shelby (Jarvis) Kennebeck, and his grandchildren, Ava, Anna, Juniper and Evelyn, his brothers, Jay (Shelley) Magnani and Kris (Denise) Magnani, niece and nephews, and extended family. Randy was preceded in death by his father Joe Magnani Jr.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Iles-Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, IA.
