Obituary

Donald Lee Umphress, 86, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 2, 1939, Don lived a full and vibrant life marked by storytelling, humor, and unwavering devotion.

Blessed with a true gift of gab, Don never met a stranger. He was a natural storyteller whose quick wit and memorable tales could light up any room. He loved to fish and was deeply proud of his service with the United States Marine Corps.

On June 22, 1963, Don married the love of his life, Kathryn “Ann” Anderson, and together they shared 62 years of marriage built on love and partnership. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured his family above all else.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his sister Carolyn DeJong; his daughters Kathleen (Mark) Smith and Denise Scott (Dwight Blomgren); his grandchildren Matthew Umphress, Whitney (Mark) Guyatt, Lane Scott, and Grace Scott; and his cherished great-grandchildren Xance Umphress, Moya Guyatt, and Gianna Guyatt. He was welcomed into eternity by family members who passed before him.

Don’s legacy lives on through the stories he told, the kindness he shared, and the love he poured into those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
