Obituary

Ronald Evan Stein, 84, passed away on November 30, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Family will receive guests at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Ron will be interred beside his wife, Marianne, in Glendale Cemetery following services.

Ron was born on November 7, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Eldon and Doris (Colligan) Stein. He graduated from Manson High School and his love for his alma mater never faded. He could often be heard saying “purple and white, dynamite,” when talking about his team. He was also an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, staying with them through good times and bad.

Ron worked for Meredith Corporation, retiring after 30 years. In his retirement he had plenty of activities to keep himself busy. Ron had a real passion for bridge. He became a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. He loved the challenge of the game and the friends he made around the card table. He also spent countless hours collecting coins, baseball cards, and all kinds of sports memorabilia. If it had history or a story behind it, Ron was interested; especially if he got a good deal on whatever he was buying.

More than anything else, Ron was a man of faith and family, never losing his devotion to either.

Ron is survived by his sons; Dan (Marie) Stein, Tom (Brenda) Stein, Jeff (Laura) Stein, and Pat (Amy) Stein; grandchildren: Justin (Jess) Malloy, Abbie (Ryan) Jones, Lauren Malloy, Katlyn (Clayton) Weber, Krystal (James) Walford, Nick Stein, Andrew Stein, Zoey Stein, Tyler Stein, Sam Stein, Jake (Becca Gray) Stein, Alexa Stein, and Ava Stein; and great-grandchildren, Adriaan, Owen, Kaden, Lettie, Emilia, Watson, Isla, Cameron, Mark, and Caroline; sisters, Nancy Meyer and Janet (Tom) Holmes; and a brother, Randy (Shirley) Stein.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over 50 years, Marianne; brother, Jack Stein; and a brother in-law, Arnie Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron’s name may be directed to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.

Iles Westover Chapel is handling arrangements. Livestream and condolences can be found at Ilescares.com
