Obituary

Richard Gilmore Bloedow, age 87, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away peacefully January 2nd, 2026.

Richard (Dick) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Jerry Bloedow and Adelyne Anderson. His family moved to Des Moines in 1947 and he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1956. Throughout his life, he was known for his dedication to both his work and his many interests. He was a proud member of the Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA), a former Mr. Iowa, and an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Drake University.

Richard built a long and reliable career as a Supervisor with Merchants Distributors, where he was respected for his leadership and work ethic.

He is survived by his daughters - self proclaimed luckiest girls in the world - Wendi Barker (Charles) and Nikki Bloedow (Erik) and grandson, James Corley. Step-sons Ed Burke Jr., Chris Burke, John Burke (Susan) and step-daughter Suzanne Campbell (Scott), 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nance, parents Daddy B and Gigi, sisters Rachon Aunspach and Jer-Aye Houser, and grandson, Enoch Campbell. Friends and family will be received on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa.

Interment will follow at a later date at Merle Hay Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
